One of the newer shops is the "Sometimes it is hotter" spice company. Not something you would expect on an island, but I have to go inside each time we are on the island to pick up some of their blended seasonings and see what new flavor combinations they have found/created.
Here are some of my favorite shops in the area. At the end is a link to the Chamber of Commerce with many more.
![]() | ![]() | The first location to mention is the roadside fruit stand on Highway 98. It is on the left just before you enter the bridge going to Apalachicola. They have fresh fruits and vegetables in season as well as flowers and other interesting items. Tell the lady that runs it that you saw her place on the web. I get nothing, but I'll bet she will be surprised.
| For all you antique buffs, there are several antique shops with sea worthy as well as american and imported antiques (They also have some prize junk so buyer beware). One shop with a focus on seafaring items is The Tin Shed. It is worth a look even if only to see the captains chest or carefully polished sextants. (Bring a fat wallet for the really good stuff) | | ||

![]() | The old fashioned soda shop on Main Street (Highway 98) in Apalachicola is a must see. The Ice cream cones are as large as your face, and the milk shakes and malts are almost like the ones from the 60's. (I say almost because they use pasteurized homogenized milk instead of the real stuff.. Ahh, but that is a story for another time.
